Dr. Ashleigh Garretson earned her Masters and Doctorate graduating Magna Cum Laude in School and Community Psychology from Hofstra University. Writing her dissertation on The Effects of Self-Compassion and Romantic Relationship Competence in Emerging Adults, she was selected as a Distinguished Dissertation Nominee at Hofstra University. She enhanced her training at the Albert Ellis Institute where she became certified in  Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy . Ashleigh has also presented findings on Psychological Forgiveness: A Moderator in Therapeutic Visitation at the International Academy of Law and Mental Health in Rome, Italy. 

She has worked at the Student Health and Counseling Center at Hofstra University providing individual therapy using a Cognitive Behavioral approach, for the treatment of young adults with a variety of mental health disorders.  She was the Clinic Coordinator for the Positive Psychology Institute for Emerging Adults at Hofstra University and she was an adjunct professor of  Positive Psychology at the undergraduate level at Hofstra University. Additionally, she worked as a therapist for the Institute for Family Forensic Psychology providing individual counseling for children, adolescents, and families experiencing divorce and custody issues.
Dr. Garretson has worked as a school psychologist and was the  Chairperson for the Committee for Special Education at Smithtown High School on Long Island where she conducted psychological evaluations, developed Individualized Education Plans, and 504 plans. 

Currently, she works in private practice specializing in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and other Anxiety related disorders. She is skilled in multiple modalities to treat patients including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Dr. Garretson provides evidence based treatments for individuals with a variety of diagnoses with a specialized focus on OCD and related disorders. Dr. Garretson is licensed in New York State and in Florida.
